“Hello. My name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [ZIP]. I’m calling to urge Governor Inslee to freeze rent, leases, and mortgages for Washingtonians during the coronavirus pandemic! With many Washingtonians losing their job or losing wages already in response to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s a growing concern about how thousands will continue to pay their rent or mortgage. If there was ever a time there should be a rent and mortgage freeze, it is now.
An eviction proclamation is not enough to protect Washingtonians from the economic fallout of COVID-19.

“Hello. My name is [NAME] and I’m writing to urge Governor Inslee to freeze rent, leases, and mortgages for Washingtonians during the coronavirus pandemic! I am asking Governor Insee to:

  • instruct state-chartered banks to waive ATM fees, late fees, overdraft fees and fees for credit cards for all Washingtonians;
  • require mortgage servicers to waive mortgage payments based on financial hardship, halt negative reporting to credit bureaus, ban late payment fees or online payment fees, offer a grace period for loan modification and postpone or suspend foreclosures;
  • develop a relief package that includes a moratorium on rent, mortgage and utility payments to abate financial strain on Washington households amid the growing economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic

Working people across Washington who have been laid off or lost their jobs are struggling to pay rent and buy basic necessities. This problem will not disappear once the threat of COVID-19 has passed and the eviction moratorium is lifted. We need a suspension of rent and forgiveness of rent and mortgage payment owed or accumulated during this crisis to help renters and landlords.
