This past Tuesday September 5th the President had the US Attorney General Jeffrey Sessions do his dirty work when he announced to the nation the ending of DACA. We had heard a rumor a few days before about what the possible outcome would be and we knew our community needed to be prepared. While leaders at the capital prepped themselves for press conferences and meetings on the day of the announcement, so did we. Clark County YWCA stepped up for the community and provided a safe space for our press conference. We were joined by Vancouver NAACP President Bridget Fahnbulleh, Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs Roz Monique L Guerrero, Latino Community Resource Group President Luz Gonzalez, Vancouver One America leader Glicerio Zurita, Southwest WA LULAC Council 47013 President Carmen McKibben, Clark County YWCA Executive Director Sherry Bennett, State Representative Monica Jurado Stonier and Bryan Stebbins of Senator Murray's Office.
Our words were of support, encouragement and brought light to what it means to be an undocumented young immigrant in our community. We came together at the local level to address the shockwave many of us are feeling as a result of Trump's racist agenda. More to come...
